Tanzania is set to host the African Energy Summit on January 27–28, 2025, in Dar es Salaam. This groundbreaking event will gather heads of government, over 1,500 executives from multilateral agencies, diplomats, private sector leaders, and stakeholders in climate and energy to shape Africa’s sustainable energy future.

Key highlights of the Summit

  • Revolutionizing energy access: The summit aims to address the challenge of providing energy access to 300 million Africans by 2030 through strategic agreements and innovative frameworks.
  • Adoption of the Africa energy compact: Delegates will adopt a roadmap for advancing sustainable and equitable energy development across the continent, aligning with global climate goals.
  • National energy compacts: Fourteen countries, including Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, will unveil their national plans to enhance energy access, reliability, and affordability for 2025–2030.
  • Dar es Salaam declaration: The summit will approve this declaration, which embodies Africa’s collective vision for renewable energy adoption, improved energy infrastructure, and achieving energy equity.

CIVISCE’s role in climate and energy advocacy

As a Tanzanian NGO dedicated to addressing climate change, Clear Vision for Change (CIVISCE) is committed to advancing renewable energy adoption and climate resilience at the grassroots level. Events like the African Energy Summit provide a vital platform to amplify the voices of communities most affected by energy inequities and climate vulnerabilities.

CIVISCE aligns its work with the summit’s vision by:

  • Promoting clean energy solutions in rural and underserved areas.
  • Advocating for inclusive energy policies that prioritize women and marginalized communities.
  • Collaborating with local and international stakeholders to integrate renewable energy into community development projects.

Tanzania’s Leadership and Vision

Gerson Msigwa, Tanzania’s Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports Permanent Secretary, emphasized the summit’s importance: “We are honored to host these critical discussions, marking a vital step toward ensuring electricity access for millions of Africans by 2030,” he stated.

Under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania has emerged as a champion of clean energy initiatives, including rural electrification and clean cooking energy. The summit will further explore renewable energy development, expanding electricity access, and promoting sustainable cooking solutions to safeguard public health and protect the environment.

A collective effort for a sustainable future

In collaboration with global partners such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the African Union framework, the summit represents a unified commitment to transforming energy systems across Africa. For CIVISCE, this is an opportunity to strengthen its advocacy and partnership efforts to accelerate climate action and energy equity.

As Tanzania takes center stage in Africa’s energy dialogue, CIVISCE stands ready to contribute to creating a more sustainable and inclusive energy future. Together, we can drive impactful solutions that empower communities and combat climate change.
