CIVISCE Launches Pilot Pawpaw Tree Project at Kitongoni Secondary School to Enhance Student Nutrition

Clear Vision for Change (CIVISCE) recently introduced a groundbreaking pilot project at Kitongoni Secondary School, donating 60 pawpaw tree saplings to support student nutrition and well-being. This initiative is part of CIVISCE’s School Feeding Program, which strives to ensure that students – many of whom travel long distances and often spend the day without meals from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM – have access to nutritious food while at school.

This program aligns with Tanzania’s National Guidelines on School Feeding and Nutrition Services to Basic Education Students (NGSFNSBES), which recognize school-based food and nutrition services as vital to students’ health and academic success.

During the distribution, CIVISCE’s Executive Director, Madam Sofia Mrosso, highlighted the potential of Kitongoni’s underutilized land. She encouraged students and teachers to plant and care for the fruit trees, noting, “Eating fruits is healthy, and I urge all students and teachers to see the importance of nurturing these trees so they can provide food in the future.”

This pilot initiative at Kitongoni Secondary School represents CIVISCE’s commitment to sustainable solutions for student nutrition, empowering students to take part in agricultural practices that enrich their school experience. Through this project, CIVISCE hopes to inspire further initiatives that support health, nutrition, and self-sufficiency in schools across Tanzania.
